Brazil

Absurdist satires don’t get any better than Terry Gilliam’s Orwellian movie vision. Imagine a world ruled by a bureaucratic, oppressive government: Sam Lowry (Jonathan Pryce) is a mid-level bureaucrat haunted by strange dreams, which propel him to try to escape the totalitarian system that he’s become entrenched in. Recognised as one of the most original and thought-provoking sci-fi films of all time, Brazil could have only come from the brilliantly twisted mind of the former member of Monty Python’s Flying Circus. Which other director would have envisioned casting Robert De Niro as a superhero freedom fighter?
