Being John Malkovich

A top pick on many critics’ "best of" lists in 1999, director Spike Jonez’ absurd comic fantasy sees John Cusack as a down-on-his-luck puppeteer, Craig Schwartz, who discovers a portal into John Malkovich’s brain. 15 minutes is all he gets in Malkovich’s head, before getting dumped onto the New Jersey turnpike. Soon, everyone from his animal-loving wife (Cameron Diaz) to his scheming co-worker Maxine (Catherine Keener), wants a go at turning it into a money-making venture. One of the most original films to make an appearance in a long time, it’s a sure bet that you haven’t seen anything quite like it.
