Adapted from a Stephen King
novel, Stanley Kubricks horror masterpiece holds up remarkably well
against slicker modern efforts. Taut and convincing dread permeates an abandoned
resort as Jack Nicholsons caretaker character, Jack Torrance, brings
his family to stay there during off-season. All manner of ghostly machinations
come to life, as his young psychic son starts seeing visions and Jack starts
losing his grip on reality. Kubricks effort is a masterpiece of psychological
horror that proved his versatile genius once and for all. |
